From Wei–Jin Heartthrobs to AI Avatars: Powering Up the Classroom with Game-Based Learning
简介
:
What happens when Wei–Jin “heartthrobs” enter an AI face-swap beauty contest, or when Confucius drops wisdom through rap? This study explores how gamification and AI can transform the teaching of Chinese classics into an immersive, student-centred experience. Addressing students’ declining interest in extensive reading, classroom activities integrate game-based learning strategies—such as quizzes, competitions, and creative digital tasks—into a Chinese literature module.
Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through pre- and post-surveys, assessments, participation tracking, and qualitative feedback. Findings reveal significant gains in student engagement, motivation, and perceived learning effectiveness. Students reported that competitive elements, instant feedback, and playful scenarios enhanced both enjoyment and retention of key literary concepts.
Beyond entertainment, these gamified experiences—such as AI-generated avatars of historical figures—made classical texts more relatable, bridging ancient cultural content with contemporary digital practices. The study demonstrates that gamification is not merely a tool for engagement, but a powerful pedagogical approach that deepens understanding and appreciation of Chinese literature. This project highlights the potential for innovative, technology-enhanced learning designs to revitalize humanities education in the polytechnic context.
